Bjørka

Picture
Skulpturell installasjon til Skulptur Triennalen 2021

Prosessbasert installasjon.

TIttel: Bjørka

26 meter lang Bjørk saget og hugget for hånd. Et sorgarbeid

Bakgrunn: Sommeren 2019 tok min søster sitt liv.

Every Hour

I will stand in this wild forest every hour of a day. One human in a wild forest.
Then I will write about it. This performance, installation, activism project is ongoing.
I believe we need to connect back to nature, our nature, to stop destroying it. To become better versions of ourselves.

Random act of Kindness Tour

In 2019 I got the chance to go to work with a police department in the USA. In this work I had a lot of interesting conversations about what it feel like to be a cop. The control, the anger, the despair. These conversations turned into an art project THE RANDOM ACT OF KINDNESS TOUR that was me and a cop on tour exploring what it feels like to do random acts of kindness.

Øvelser i samling

This project consists of large scultures of wood and marble. I am investigating what these ancient materials can trigger in our memories.  They are ever changing as the pieces are not fixed to anything. This is a project that is always growing, never finished. Made with materiale either found or given to me.

Falne

Picture
I over ett år hadde jeg studio ute i skogen.

Selve skapelsesprosessen skjer ute i naturen.

Picture
Reliable and unreliable tools were made as a reaction to our times. I felt it was time to go back to basic and work with wood and my hands.
They are all made out of materials found on the ground. No trees were cut in this process and no waste was produced.

I am listening

Picture
I have for the longest time thought about the artist role. What is our mission? Why do we do what we do? I have read hundreds of Artist Statements/Manifestos.
There might be as many missions as there are artists. My statement is as much as a human statement than an artist statement because I that first, Human:" I live a simple life -honesty lingers there. "
Being an artist in one of the most peaceful countries in the world I have the fortune of making art about other subjects than human rights.
I have the possibility to be open, personal, private, and honest without risking anything other than my own vulnerability. It is such a gift to explore freely.
Some of my fuel as an artist has always been to take a good look at the world and report back. The report has not always been a documentary style report, but more of what I see the world could need. Like offering the other end of the scale to balance something valuable.

My latest creation and offering is listening.
At its best listening has the ability to connect us to ourselves and therefor create a connection to others as well. And there lay the key to a more peaceful human relation. To me that is the highest form of art, and the ultimate possibility of an art project.
It is my response to the violence, hate crimes and terrorism across our planet. I belive we need to slow down, listen and understand our needs as human beings. From there we might be able to build a more compassionate society.

The art project: I am listening started in 2016. Dialogs have so far been held in Norway, Sweden, Greece, France and Italy. About 250 people have been involved.
It continues for as long as it is neccesary. it. The art of it is felt, before it is seen.

"LYtte"

"Arven"

Picture
This project consists of over 60 works of art. Large one of a kind silkscreens, installations, and objects.
I inherited the archive from Norways first art gallery. My great great grandparents started the gallery in Oslo in 1864. My mother and father was the fourth generation running this gallery. In 2009 my father brought 9 boxes to me and said: "Do you want these? its the archive to the gallery. " I accepted and kept them in my studio for many years before opening them. Now it has become one of my most important projects. Its about Norwegian identity, culture, inheritance form society and family.
Norway first art gallery had four important merchandise; They sold art, and they sold postcards of Norway, the archive had hundreds of these photographs used as postcards. The images seen below are my artwork made form these photos. The third was reproductions of Norwegian art. The gallery was the first to introduce reproductions to the public and therefor the archive contains handwritten letters from famous norwegian artist like Christian Krohg, Tidemand, Gude etc. The last but not least was portraits of the Royal Family.

Works from Arven has been shown at KHÅK Kunsthall in Ålesund, Norway, Hubai Art Museeum in China,
Østlandsutstillingen in Kiel Germany and Oslo, Norway and at Kunstverket Galleri in Oslo, Norway.

Please feel free to contact me if you are interested in seeing or acquiring pieces from the project, or if you are interested in showing this project.

THIS PROJECT IS SUPPORTED BY THE NORWEIGAN ART COUNSIL.

Who are you missing

"Who are you missing" was a public art project developed for the international day of suicide prevention. A large scale blackboard was set up downtown Oslo with the words Who are you missing. A short film was also made.

Warning Signs

WARNING SIGNS is a street art project I did in 2005-2009. The project was shown at Oslo main train station in may 2007. The project was seen by close to one million people. It was one of the most talked about and widely seen street art projects in Norway at the time. The project consists of a huge banner 7x7 meters, buttons, stickers and posters that I am giving out for free to anybody who wants to contribute in spreading the message of hope in the streets.

These five statements has been presented:

WARNING THERE MIGHT BE HOPE IN THE STREETS THAT YOU ARE UNAWARE OF
WARNING THERE MIGHT BE ART IN THE STREETS THAT YOU ARE UNAWARE OF
WARNING THERE MIGHT BE FARTS IN THE ARTS THAT YOU ARE UNWARE OF
WARNING THERE MIGHT BE ART IN YOUR FUTURE YOU ARE UNAWARE OF
WARNING THERE MIGHT BE HOPE IN YOUR FUTURE THAT YOU ARE UNWARE OF

I WANT OUT

I started with street art before street art had a name. We were a handful of art students putting up art in the streets of San Francisco.
I WANT OUT was a retrospective at Tou Scene of some of the work I did in the early 1990-2000.

Stipendet

In 2006 I founded the only scholarship in the world where everyone is qualified .
The project ran through 2015 and we gave out over 300 000kr to a number of people, old and young. National and international.
The money was collected by various forms of voluntary work.
A social experiment that worked way before crowd funding.
